Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of characters who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

With a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might look unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the team understands precisely where to head next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise started the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his own means, entering the secret base, assaulting the character, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.

The traitor then settled his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and warns that it is a nasty environment.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their position as key figures in the powerful family could assist the party enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The target is marked for death by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to the northern region in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we discover that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Seekers and Schemers groups.

Audiences can look forward to finding out which players will be in which group in the story’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on next week.
